Look at the following extract which has been adapted from a piece for piano by Beethoven, and answer the questions below.

- Explain what these barlines mean

- What key has the music modulated to by bar 8? (2 points)
- Which member of the string family could play from the right hand piano part without any change of pitch? (1 point)
- Name the lowest sounding member of the string family. (1 point)
- Describe the melodic intervals marked A, B and C (e.g. perfect 5th) (3 points)
- Transpose bars 1-2 of the right hand piano part up by a major second. Don't forget to write the new key signature. (2 points)
- Using semibreves (whole notes) in the bass clef, write out one octave of the ascending minor melodic scale which uses this key signature. Don't forget to include any necessary accidentals. (2 points)
