Look at the following extract which has been adapted from a piece for cello and piano by A. Longo, and answer the questions below.

  1. Give the meaning of "Andante". (1 point)
  2. Give the name of the symbol below the chord, marked A in bar 4 of the left-hand piano part. (1 point)
  3. Write out bars 3-4 of the cello part using the tenor clef. Remember to include the key signature. (2 points)
  4. Which woodwind instrument would be able to play from the cello part without a change in pitch? (1 point)
  5. The cello is a member of the string family. Name the highest-pitched member of this family. (1 point)
  6. Give the full name (e.g. perfect 5th) of the melodic intervals marked B and C. (2 points)
  7. Is the time signature of this piece simple or compound? (1 point)
  8. Is the time signature of this piece duple, triple, quadruple or irregular? (1 point)
  9. Give the technical name (e.g. tonic, dominant, etc.) of the note marked D in bar 2. (1 point)
  10. Complete the piano part (left and right hand) with the necessary rests at E, bar 7. (1 point)
  11. Name the triad (e.g. I, ii, etc.) in bar 8. (1 point)
  12. Rewrite bars 1-2 of the cello part using a time signature of 9/8, without changing the rhythmic effect. (2 points)
