The My Music Theory Composition Masterclass (Grade Five)
How the course works:
- On payment, you'll become a member of a private section of the mymusictheory forum. (The private section is not visible to non-masterclass members.)
- Each day, for seven days, a lesson will be posted in the forum, followed by exercises or tasks to be done by you at home. Each lesson is posted at about 6.30pm (UK time).
- You need to be able to scan or photograph your answers, so that you can post them in the forum.
- All students on the course post their answers and queries in the same thread as the lesson.
- Students can comment/compare their answers together if they wish, but feedback will be given by the teacher every day.
- Feedback is personalised and given to every student.
- You are able to post under your chosen username, to remain anonymous!
- The lessons are designed to help you maximise your marks in a short time.
- The lessons focus on composing for an instrument and do not address the specific needs when composing for a voice.
Did you know...?
- The composition question in the grade 5 music theory exam is worth 15 points - it could make the difference between a pass or a fail, or getting a distinction!
- It's marked in a complicated way - you are expected to use your all-round knowledge of music theory to make a good composition.
- It DOES matter how neat your work is.
- There is no "one right answer" for the composition questions, but there are lots of things which would be most definitely "wrong!". Do you know what they all are?
- Most instrument teachers don't have much time to teach composition, but it's an important part of the exam.
- You can learn some top tips really quickly to boost your score!
- You don't have to be a budding Mozart to do well in the composition question.
